Olympus Evolt E510 SLR Camera - The Best of the Bunch

I bought an Olympus SLR camera some time ago, the Evolt E510 model to be more exact. My advice for those that are buying a SLR camera for the first time would be to be careful how they choose it. If the auto mode is the only thing that you'll be using, then you should stick with the cheaper versions. The E510 for example is not made to be great in this area, and a very good point and shoot might be better. For example, if you choose to use auto mode with a SLR, the photo will be bad if the sun is behind you. With a DSLR you need to use either spot metering or the P mode. What I like about this camera:

1. I can take shots that are sharp at 1/30 while the focal length is set at 300mm in 35mm equivalent.

2. The ISO is clean and high. The noise reduction is very small when the ISO is up to 800. If you're using ISO 1600, the results will be even better.

3. The quality of the photos is good , with good sharpness and color, even if the noise filter is turned off. There are cameras out there with better dynamic range, but it shouldn't be a problem if you use Lightroom and RAW files.

4. SSWF. While other brands have problems in this department, the dust buster works well. Even though I change lenses quite a bit, I didn't see any dust.

5. The weight, size and ergonomics. The lenses that come with the camera will cover the 28-300mm range, something that doesn't happen with any other camera.

What I don't like about it:

1. The viewfinder is a bit on the small side, but at least it's bright compared with other models from Olympus. Using the Live View will help you a bit. If you have good eyes, that's not a problem.

2. Using lenses with manual focus for confirmation of the focus. It's something that I wished it had, since other cameras from Pentax and Panasonic have it. Since it should be fixable through the software, they could probably do that through a firmware.

The problems that I have with it aren't that bad, and the second one can be fixed easily. If you got a bit of experience then you can take great photos with it. If you're new at this, then it might be a challenge at first. As long as you're not bothered by the fact that it's made in China, then this is a very good SLR to own.

Olympus SLR Camera Buying Tips

When it comes to digital photography, my brother was the one that taught me everything he knew. He started enjoying it when he got a Canon F series 35mm from our father. His digital camera right now is a 20D SL with a 420EX flash, which costs thousands of dollars when you take into consideration the L series lenses. Some time ago I bought the E500 dual lens kit paying only a small percentage of what he paid, and it seems that it really offers the best bang for the money you're paying.

In the vast majority of cases, when photos go wrong, the camera isn't to blame, but the person using it. That's the case in 49 cases out of 50. A friends of mine that uses a model from 2001, a Canon S230, takes much better photos than me, even though I have an excellent digital SLR.

I tested the 20D model that my brother has and the E500 that I own, and my camera focuses slower, but apparently that can be solved by doing a firmware upgrade. When we tried taking the cameras in our hands, the E500 felt lighter than the 20D model.

One thing that I loved about the camera were the LCD controls, which controlled everything from flash speed, to exposure, ISO and any other setting that you want changed. One observation that my brother had was that he was missing the small LCD screen that his Canon had on top of the camera. The quality of the photos was good, so the post processing was minimal. When the vivid settings were activated, the quality of the photos was better than the 20D model. Overall, this model was definitely worth the money paid for it.

A few months since I bought it and I'm just as happy today with the quality of the photos it takes. I still use the camera on a regular basis, and I recommended this Olympus SLR camera to others as well. So far, three people bought it based on my recommendation and they're very satisfied with it.

Comparing the money invested, my brother spend $4000 on his camera, while my own camera has only $700 invested in it. His latest investment in the camera was a flash (580EX) and a lens that is wide angel L. I love how he can take photos in burst (3-4 photos) while using flash for all of them.

Buy a Cheap Olympus Camera Lens

The Olympus camera lens is known for the super-telephoto zoom lens. It may be very heavy than the regular camera lens but this is because it has three Extra-low Dispersion lens elements in it. This lens offers a higher contrast and sharper images.

There is also the magnification which is equivalent to 35mm. It also has a lot of footwork out of both the macro photography world and the super-telephoto. It is so lightweight and compact. Waterproof Camera Group Test

There’s a new group review of waterproof digital cameras just posted, wherein DPreview was were trying to find out how good the current generation of waterproof cameras are, and which would be best (if any) should you decide to only take one camera with you to the beach or on a holiday involving some water activities. What they found was that with one exception (the Pentax W60) the typical specifications (3x optical zoom and VGA video recording) lagged behind those of the best compact cameras today, though 10 or 12 MP sensors and ISO ranges from 50 - 1600 were more in line with modern standards.

Features aside, when you are purchasing a camera, what you really want to know is which camera will consistently produce the best image quality. And on that front this review quickly turned into a story of two groups of cameras, with the Canon D10 and Pentax W60 producing better results in pretty much any situation than the Fujifilm Z33 or the two Olympus Tough models.
