Fujifilm FinePix HS20 16 MP Digital Camera Review

35mm camera

The FinePix HS20 digital camera is built with a high speed processor that help it take high speed shots and also make very good quality HD movies. It also has an EXR-CMOS sensor to help detect moving objects and take photo in a very dim area.
The processor also gave the benefit of improving the menu, this menu helps the user scroll through the different settings, enabling advanced user or giving a simple sectioned menu for the novice user.
The FinePix HS20 digital camera can cache an amazing 27 scenes, keeping the best shots for you automatically, this depending on the configuration you selected. Three manual settings gives you the option to customize your pictures accurately from high resolution priority, low noise priority to Dynamic Range, this mode enables you to combine two images in one scene.
The amazing EXR processor and precise sensor can take very cool pictures at 3, 5, 8 and 11 frames per second with an auto focus of 0.16 seconds. The camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels and a zoom of 30X that can cover a wide range equivalent to a 35mm.
You can also compile very good quality digital movies that can capture at 320 frames per second and 1080 full HD quality that can be easily viewed on your television set using a HDMI cable.
A feature that we like was the face detection technology that can recognize up to 10 faces from any angle and then register 8 faces in the camera with name and date of birth, you can then find a picture with that person in it using the camera's face recognition software. Too bad it's only good for 8 people. The fact that the Digital Camera needs 4 AA batteries was also a minor setback for us, preferring a rechargeable battery pack.
All in all this is a great digital camera to have if you're looking to take high speed quality pictures or movies.

Fuji FinePix X100 Reviews

To satisfy lovers of the rangefinder style of digital camera, Fujifilm introduced the Fuji FinePix X100. One could easily mistake this camera from a Leica from the sixties. We have compiled a list of many reviews of the X100 below.
Click to check price
"All things considered, the Fuji FinePix X100 is a very impressive fixed lens camera, and I imagine that they'll sell a boatload of them, despite the price. It offers superb photo quality, good performance (in most respects), a rangefinder-style body with a one-of-a-kind viewfinder, and plenty of manual controls. The camera does have its issues, mostly related to buffer memory and the user interface, but for a first generation camera, Fuji has done a great job. Despite needing work in a few areas, the "pros" ways outweigh the "cons", making the FinePix X100 a camera I can highly recommend."
Features:
  • 12.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor, optimized for the X100's lens
  • F2.0, 23mm Fujinon lens, equivalent to 35mm
  • EXR image processor
  • Rangefinder-style magnesium alloy body (looks a lot like a Leica) with dials for aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation
  • Hybrid Viewfinder can be optical (with frame and shooting data superimposed) or fully electronic
  • 2.8" LCD display with 460,000 pixels
  • Full manual controls, with RAW support
  • 5 fps continuous shooting
  • Electronic level
  • Hot shoe for external flash
  • Built-in neutral density filter
  • 180 degree panorama creation feature
  • 720p movie mode with stereo sound
  • HDMI output

FujiFilm FinePix Z800EXR Review

Hot off the press today is Steve's Digicams review of the FujiFilm FinePix Z800EXR.

Steve tells us-

"Bottom Line - We were not real impressed with the Finepix Z800EXR. While the specifications looked very promising, there were just too many negative aspects of this camera, which makes it hard for use to recommend it. These included below average image and video quality when compared to other cameras of this price, poor battery life, above average noise at all ISO settings, a weak flash, etc. While the Z800EXR sports an affordable price tag of just $229 US, we feel you should take a look at various other sub $250 cameras before making your final purchase. Many of the offerings from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, and even Casio out perform the Z800EXR in many areas."

Fujifilm FinePix A303 Digital Camera

Two years ago I purchased my first digital camera. At that time, prices for a 3.0 and higher mega pixel camera were around $350. Since then, as with all electronic gadgets, prices have dropped significantly while the mega pixels have gone up. I chose the Fujifilm's A303 digital camera, which has fared well for me, so permit me the opportunity to tell you why.

I desperately needed a digital camera when my web business took off. On many different occasions I found myself wanting to take a picture of a person, place or thing and having to rely on a 35mm camera. Trouble was I wasn't very good at taking pictures. Usually my subject came out blurry or the picture needed cropping. Yes, getting pictures developed on disk would have resolved the latter problem, but it was the former problem -- blurry pictures -- that was causing me the most grief. If only I could see "on the spot" how my picture turned out. If it turned out poorly, I could reshoot. Naturally, a digital camera presented to me something that no 35mm camera could offer; I made the purchase of a 3.2 mega pixel camera by Fujifilm after considerable shopping around and reading product reviews online.

Packed within a tough grey shell, the A303 is lightweight and can fit easily into your pant pockets. The camera's controls are simple to figure out and include a Menu/OK button, Back button, viewfinder, viewfinder lamp, a display buttion and LCD monitor to preview pictures without looking through the viewfinder or to review pictures already taken. A round dial in the back of the camera features a self timer mode where you can set the camera and ten seconds later have the picture go off. Great for when you want to get the entire family's picture and no one is around to take it. There are also close up modes, still image, playback and movie modes. The movie mode results in a fairly choppy and short film, but it is a neat feature to have nevertheless.

The standard camera comes equipped with a 16mb picture card. Most people will find that inadequate, so I paid a little bit extra and bought the 64mb upgrade. I also purchased rechargeable AA batteries -- it takes two -- and a recharger. You will sap your batteries quickly if you take 30-40 or more pictures at a time, so the recharger makes sense. I purchased the accompanying Fujifilm carrying case to house my other supplies.

Pictures come out clear and in two years of picture taking I have not experienced a single problem with the camera. At 3.2 mega pixels the pictures are more than adequate as virtually everything I do gets posted to the internet. Supposedly you do not need more mega pixels when posting/viewing pictures online. With the included USB cable and HP software, you will be uploading pictures to the internet in no time.

If there are any drawbacks with the A303 there is just one and it is a glaring problem: the time between shots can seem endless! I suppose the elapsed time is only about ten seconds, but it seems like an eternity especially compared to 35mm cameras. Technological improvements have closed the gap considerably with newer models, but if you need this camera to take a group of shots quickly you will be disappointed.

All in all, the A303 is a very good camera. I give it a 4-star rating for ease of use, price, and dependability.

Fujifilm launches social network for Generation Z

Today, Fujifilm launched ZSpotNow.com, a new social network that brings together music fans, artists, gadget gurus and fashionistas across the United States.

In 2007, Fujifilm took on ‘Generation Z’ with a successful PR/marketing campaign around its stylish FinePix Z10fd digital camera, which was targeted at the 15-25 year old demographic, that culminated with a launch event headlined by ‘The Bravery’ at The Fillmore (Irving Plaza) in New York City. This year, as Fujifilm’s colorful Z-Series lineup continues to evolve with the recently-announced Fujifilm FinePix Z20 digital camera, the company is taking a broader, grassroots approach to engaging with this target demographic and has designed a campaign specifically for them. The ZSpotNow.com social network will act as the hub for three contests and events slated to take place in Los Angeles, Miami and New York City in the coming months.

Each of these diversely-themed nationwide contests and events is inspired by the unique attributes of Fujifilm FinePix Z20 digital camera, and are individually themed to match the city’s flavor: Los Angeles – Hollywood movie theme; Miami – urban art/skateboarding counterculture; New York – fashion.

For your reference, Fujifilm has put together a multimedia press release where you can access images, get details on featured artists performing at the events and learn more about the contests.

Digital Camera Shopping Research

Yes, it may be a little early for this, but as you know time between now and Christmas (there, I said it) tends to disappear faster than a pint of ale set in front of me on a Friday evening. That said, it’s not too early to start doing your homework and thinking about the kinds of digital photo gifts you might consider giving this holiday season.

If you’re thinking about giving a gift that involves digital photography this year, you certainly won’t be alone. According to the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) figures, some 27.5 million digital cameras will be sold during 2007, up slightly from 26.7 million last year.

CNET has compiled the most popular digital cameras for your consideration. And there’s this very thorough digital camera type guide that also should prove to be very helpful produced by DigitalCameraReview.com.

There’s also Digital Photography Review (DPReview.com) which is perhaps the most comprehensive review site there is for digital cameras. A little research will help enormously when there are so many different models to choose from.

When you’re ready to move on and start hunting down the best prices, we have our own little store setup here at DeapPop!, powered by Amazon.com. Not a bad place to start :)

Fujifilm FinePix S9600 Digital Camera Review

An incredibly versatile camera designed for serious hobbyist and enthusiast photographers, the 9.0 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix S9100 Digital Camera features Fujifilm’s Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Processor, delivering IS0 1600 performance and enabling capture of crisp and clear images even in low light conditions. The camera’s 10.7x (28-300mm 35mm equivalent) zoom lens incorporates aspherical elements that result in a sharper image, and minimizes distortion and aberrations. The lens is easily controlled via a manual zoom ring to give pinpoint accuracy when composing images. Furthermore, its fixed housing ensures that users do not have to contend with specks of dust or dirt collecting on the sensor. This can compromise image quality and is a drawback often associated with conventional digital SLRs.

Digicam Review have this to say about the camera:
The Fujifim S9600 / S9100 is an impressive 9 megapixel digital camera with a wide angle 10.7x optical zoom lens and a large 2" display. The camera is one of very few to include ISO 1600. It has excellent responsiveness and is designed to be able to take great photos in situation the majority of cameras would fail. Although some people may be overwhelmed with the number of controls, with use and familiarity, they become almost intuitive. Particularly welcome is the pivoting screen (which could have been even better had it pivoted on both axes). The FujiFilm S9600 / S9100 is well worth considering - there are few digital cameras that offer so many options and so much quality for such a low price.

One Fuji S4 Pro Please

I came across a blog posting by Derrel who longs for the next top of the line model from Fujifilm, speculated to be called the S4 Pro (following the S2 and S3 Pro). With Fuji DSLRs Derrel writes, it's all about the quality of the photos their cameras capture. The S3 wasn't very fast, compared to the rest of the field. Although these cameras are out of my league, I still like to read about them, and I think it's time Fuji hinted as to when we might see the S4. (maybe Photokina?)

"Price-wise, I expect Fuji's S4 will enter the USA market priced at $2400 or so. Why that price? Well, they did it with the S2 at $2400,and they did it with the S3 at $2500. Nikon premiered the D100 at $1699, and Nikon premiered the D200 at $1699. Sounds reasonable to me. An S4 will likely hit the market priced at $2400--or more."

Things You Should Know Before Buying Discount Cameras

by Nicky Pilkington

Taking photographs has always been considered an enjoyable pastime. Photography is one of the best ways to capture a moment in time. It seems now the world has become obsessed with taking pictures. Everywhere you look there are advertisements for cameras. Probably one of the most significant innovations in the Digital Age has been the digital camera. At one time these cameras had one thing in common with their non-digital counterparts--an expensive price tag. In recent years the cost of digital cameras has dropped considerably; so much so that you can easily purchase a digital camera for less than $200. To find the best deal you will need to do some comparison-shopping. By arming yourself with some information about digital cameras, you will better prepare yourself for buying discount cameras.

As most of the innovations in digital technology, digital cameras are considered more complex than they really are. When you shop for discount cameras, price should not be your only guide. It is a good idea to understand some of the basic features of digital cameras so that you can effectively compare the various models available on the market.

If you're interested in buying discount cameras, you undoubtedly are familiar with at least one buzzword associated with digital cameras: megapixel. Megapixel, which refers to the number of pixels per one million or how fine an image's resolution is, is important to consider when buying discount cameras because megapixel directly relates to the image quality you are able to obtain. When you shop for discount cameras you will notice that there are a wide range of megapixels. At one time, a digital camera with 1.3 megapixel was standard and a camera with 5.0 megapixels was considered top-shelf. With the recent introduction of digital cameras with 9.0 megapixels, the standard in megapixels is changing.

Buying a digital camera with the highest number of megapixels is not necessarily the best method of selecting a digital camera. Since megapixels relate to an image's resolution, you should first determine your plans for the digital camera. If you want simply to take images for personal use, a median number of megapixels such as 3.5 may be sufficient. If on the other hand you intend to enlarge and crop images, you may want to shop for digital cameras with a higher number of megapixels.

The number of megapixels that a camera uses is the primary selling point for digital cameras. However, it is the additional features that will have the greatest effect on price. Optional features that you may want to consider include video recording capabilities, an optical zoom lens, and a histogram. Most cameras include a zoom lens, but it is usually a digital zoom lens. This type of lens only appears to enlarge the image. An optical zoom lens is an ideal option if you will use your digital camera to shoot distant objects. Creating a digital movie is another popular option. If you want a digital camera with this feature, be sure to note the maximum recording time. A handy feature that is not used often, but is very handy if you are serious about digital photography is histogram. Once you snap an image you can use the histogram option to analyze the exposure. If an image is too bright or too dark you can reshoot the image.

You should be aware of the five distinct types of digital cameras available:

* Compacts. Simple to use and inexpensive (around $150 to $300), these are best for everyday shooting situations. As a consequence of their simplicity, however, they may have limited manual controls for exposure and composition. Models from our tests whose combination of low price and high performance qualify them as CR Best Buys are the top-rated Canon PowerShot A510 (3 megapixels; $180), the Kodak EasyShare CX7430 (4 megapixels; $180), and the Olympus D-580 Zoom (4 megapixels; $160). The Canon has manual controls and a 4x zoom lens. The Kodak and Olympus have 3x zooms and longer battery life.

* Subcompacts. Their small size and light weight let you carry these anywhere, although that smallness may make them awkward to operate. Expect to pay from $200 to $350. We like the Canon PowerShot SD300 (4 megapixels; $310), the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-L1 (4 megapixels; $240), and the Nikon Coolpix 7900 (7 megapixels; $350). All have a 3x zoom and all lack manual controls.

* Advanced compacts. These have versatile controls, long zoom ranges, and can store a shot as a "RAW" image -- preserving the original data the sensor captured, eliminating any undesirable effects of the camera's built-in processing. Cost: $300 to $600. The Fujifilm FinePix E550 (6 megapixels; $300) and the bulky Olympus C-7070 Wide Zoom (7 pixels; $390) have 4x zoom lenses. The Canon Powershot S60 (5 megapixels; $360) has a 3.6x lens.

* Super zooms. Larger, bulkier, heavier, and -- at $250 to $450 -- costlier than most compact models, these have a very long zoom range with powerful telephoto settings. They're a good choice for travel, nature and sports photography. Our choices are the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 (5 megapixels; $420), the Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom (4 megapixels; $270), and the Canon PowerShot S1IS (3 megapixels; $270). The Olympus and Canon have 10x zooms; the Panasonic, 12x.

* SLRs. Serious photographers who want more control over their images than most point-and-shoots provide have that option in single-lens-reflex (SLR) digital cameras. These accept interchangeable lenses, and lack or minimize some of the shortcomings of point-and-shoots. (For example: Shutter lag, the delay between the time you trip the shutter and when the camera takes the picture, is almost nonexistent in SLRs. In other digital cameras, the lag is about 1 second.) Expect to pay $900 to $1,500 for these big, heavy models. We like the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (8 megapixels; $1,000) for its near-professional power and controls. It comes with an 18mm-55mm zoom lens, and at 27 ounces is the lightest of the SLRs we tested.

Service Advisory for Fuji S2 / S3 Pro cameras with Nikon 18-200mm VR lens

Fuji has issued a Service Advisory for a problem that may arise if you use your FinePix S3 Pro/S2 Pro with the Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor ED 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. When the zoom is set to the wide-angle position, if you attempt to focus using AF (Auto Focus) when the distance scale is set to infinity (∞), the camera may very occasionally fail to focus on close-up subjects.

This notice is to inform you that the problem described below may arise if you use your FinePix S3 Pro/S2 Pro with the Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor ED 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6G lens.

Problem:

When the zoom is set to the wide-angle position, if you attempt to focus using AF (Auto Focus) when the distance scale is set to infinity (∞), the camera may very occasionally fail to focus on close- up subjects. Accordingly, to provide full compatibility with the above lens, an upgrade service is being implemented for the FinePix S3 Pro and S2 Pro. Note that this upgrade is NOT required by anyone NOT using the Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom Nikkor ED 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6G lens.

Scope of Upgrade Application:

FinePix S3 Pro
This upgrade applies only to cameras with serial numbers (on the bottom of the camera body) lower than the following numbers:

We would like to take this opportunity to inform our valued customers of an issue that may affect the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens when used with Fujifilm Nikon F-mount-equipped FinePix S3 Pro and S2 Pro digital-SLR cameras.

Performance Indications
In some rare cases, the camera is unable to acquire accurate focus on near subjects when shooting at wide-angle positions and autofocusing at infinity. This issue is caused by incompatibilities in AF control at short distances between the new Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED and Digital SLR cameras manufactured by Fujifilm.

Resolution
To resolve this issue, the firmware on Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro/S2 Pro digital-SLR cameras must be updated. This issue cannot be resolved with adjustment of the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens. See the Fujifilm Worldwide web site for instructions on updating camera firmware.

Thank you for choosing Nikon as an important part of your imaging system.

The image mentions a DX 13.2 mega pixel super sensor, also using the Nikon mount, no surprise there, and it looks like it will not be full framed.
