As with all things digital, digital cameras have rapidly dropped in price over the last few years. Second is HD Video and Creative Auto. No, this is not a typo. The two features that make the Rebel T1i cost more than the XSi are the reasons for buying the T1i rather than the XSi. If that does not make sense, consider this. Almost all point and shoot digital cameras have video capability, and they have an LCD screen with a preview of the photo that is about to be taken. Not all DSLRs have these two features. In fact the Rebel XSi does not, but the T1i does have them. Actually, Creative Auto is a lot more technologically sophisticated than a live view on the LCD screen, but suffice it to say that the photographer you are thinking of will really appreciate it.
You brought the latest digital camera costing a fortune and are all set to explore the photographer in you. You hurriedly go through the manual and are impatient to start shooting. You take out your camera and flaunting it you start taking pictures. Some are good but many are not. When you transfer it onto your computer most of the pictures you have taken turn out to be disappointing and you start wondering if the camera is having some defect. You are certain to find that there are several other types of digital camera that will provide superior results as compared to a compact. However compacts remain the popular choice for many consumers, especially those headed on a holiday that need a camera capable of quickly taking lots of pictures.

As a rule, it's pretty hard to buy a bad digital SLR camera in today's market. I'm not just referring to the fact that manufacturers and retailers are fiercely competing for consumer dollars in a tight economy. That's been going on for years with digital cameras. The other good thing, is that competitiveness has also driven up the quality, features and technology of cameras at a fevered pitch.
Is an SLR camera really worth the extra money? I know I've taken some pretty amazing photographs using just a simple, cheap point and shoot camera. I'm sure everyone has. Sometimes it's just a matter of being at the right place, and recognizing a moment that would make a memorable photo. So, is buying a camera like the Olympus E510 SLR really necessary? Maybe. It's true that a good tool in the hands of a competent artist can create great art, but lets carefully examine that tool before jumping to any conclusions.
